Remembering Dr Fritz Scherer

FC Bayern paid special tribute to former president Dr Fritz Scherer during the 3-2 home win against FC St. Pauli at the Allianz Arena. A minute's silence was held before the German record champions' match, the players wore black armbands, the fans in the Südkurve displayed a special tifo and companions from a total of 30 years together at FC Bayern signed the book of condolence. Among others, president Herbert Hainer, former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and the board of directors led by CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and his deputy Michael Diederich paid their respects in person. In addition, vice presidents Professor Dr Dieter Mayer and Walter Mennekes, long-standing board member Karl Hopfner and former players such as Franz ‘Bulle’ Roth and Giovane Elber as well as the chairman of the advisory board, Dr Edmund Stoiber, also signed the book.

Following the news of the painful loss a fortnight ago, the book of condolence was placed in the FC Bayern Museum to give all Bayern fans the opportunity to honour Scherer in this way. The 85-year-old, who had been a member of the club since 1 July 1971 and last had the membership number 418, helped shape the club for decades as president, vice-president, treasurer and loyal companion. After his retirement, he was made honorary vice president. The book of condolence will be on display in the FC Bayern Museum at the Allianz Arena in front of the replica of the president's room until the home game against Mainz 05 on 26 April.
