Reaction to the win away at Holstein Kiel
Vincent Kompany: “We’re still not looking at the table. We have to keep winning. Our mentality from the start was very good. We knew we had a very good squad. It was ideal for us that we were leading 4-0 at half-time so we were able to make changes early. I hope that we can keep going for a while without injuries to players. Today was a good result and a good performance. Let’s push on!”
Manuel Neuer: “We got off to a great start, were at it from the first whistle, made it 1-0 early on and didn’t stop there. We controlled things from the beginning, played with dynamism and gave a clear display of what we’re capable of. There are a lot of positives when we look back at our games. We’ve got our winning mentality back and we’re on a bit of a run. We want to keep going and not rest on our laurels. The next tasks await us with Zagreb and Bremen. Which means we need to keep scoring. We have to win our games now.”
Joshua Kimmich: “I’m enjoying it. For us, at the moment, the most important thing is that we win our games. This helps our development. Today we were very versatile. The pitch is perfect, the atmosphere here is very special – it’s a cool stadium. The last time we were here was not so great, but today it was. The early goals decided the game quickly. In the build-up I played on the right of the back three, but as we got higher up, I shifted more into the middle. Then in the press I always stay in the middle.”
Reaction from the Holstein Kiel camp
Carsten Wehlmann (managing director for sport): “We made too many schoolboy errors in the first 10 minutes. But the boys kept on going, so hats off to them for that. And we were rewarded for it with our first ever goal at home in the Bundesliga.”
Lewis Holtby (captain): “You don’t enjoy losing 6-1. There was a gulf in class, we weren’t close to our level. Bayern are a top team, and they played superb positionally. There was always this feeling that they had an extra player. So, credit to Bayern. But being 3-0 down so quickly should not be happening. It was a game from which we can learn a lot. We’ll stick together as a unit, as there are many more opponents to come.”
