Reaction to Bayern v Wolfsburg
Max Eberl (Board member for sport): "The point is that we didn't put the game to bed early enough. We soon conceded the equaliser from a set piece, restored the lead before half-time and could have made it 3-1, it was probably handball. Then we could have closed it out in the second half. We didn't and weren't so focused any more. Suddenly it was 3-2 and we were on tenterhooks, we could have avoided that. But I had respect for Wolfsburg, they're the third-best team away from home, they're creeping up their way through the table, they don't play so attractively, but they defend very well and always score out of almost nothing. A team with potential to make their opponents slip, but we overcame them."
Vincent Kompany: "Before the match I had the feeling it would be difficult. Wolfsburg have taken a very good development, they're in a good phase, they're always dangerous. We turned in a good performance over large spells. I'm satisfied with the result, it's a positive start to the new year."
Manuel Neuer: "I think we had good chances. It was the same against Gladbach, but we kept a clean sheet against them. Today it got exciting towards the end. We kept going, we kept our calm despite the quick equaliser. We had many good chances but failed to make the most of them. But it's hard to create such chances, you can only congratulate the team."
Joshua Kimmich: "At the end we made it a bit exciting again, more than it was supposed to be. It's very good we created this wealth of chances, but of course we should have closed it out earlier. Wolfsburg are often underestimated, but they're doing a really good job, so we're glad we allowed little, such a game can easily turn."
Harry Kane: "We should have scored more goals today, that would have made it easier for us. But Wolfsburg stayed in the game and scored at an important moment and made it stressful again in the last few minutes. But taken altogether we won. It was a good display against strong opponents who've taken many points this season."
