Brugge post-match reaction - Vincent Kompany: 'The young players showed they can help us'

Thanks to a performance full of flair and confidence, FC Bayern enjoyed a convicing 4-0 win at home to Club Brugge in the Champions League league phase on Wednesday night, extending their incredible run to 12 wins in 12 competitive games this season. “It was a good performance. We maybe could’ve scored more goals, but we kept a clean sheet and overall delivered a very good home performance,” summarised head coach Vincent Kompany. “The key is that winning is just  fun – you see that in us. You notice the joy of playing in every game,” commented captain Manuel Neuerfcbayern.com has the rest of the post-match reaction for you.

Vincent Kompany: “It was a good performance. We maybe could’ve scored more goals, but we kept a clean sheet and overall delivered a very good home performance. In addition, some of the young players showed that they can help us in this season – that was important. In terms of the next games, obviously we’ve got great opponents in PSG and Arsenal but we want to win every game. The path to the next round isn’t easy, we know that. Now it’s about continuing to pick up points – in the league, in the cup and in the Champions League. The winners of the Champions League won’t be decided yet. What counts for us is progressing – that’s our job.”

Manuel Neuer: “We started the game well with a great goal. We’re in a flow right now, we’re confident and taking that into the matches. The key is that winning is just  fun – you see that in us. You notice the joy of playing in every game. It’s only the third matchday of the Champions League season, you can’t ease off at any stage. We have to keep refocusing. The strain is high at the moment, the boys who come in are doing a very good job. We go into the Gladbach match with confidence. We’ve not let anything slip yet and we want to get the three points again in Gladbach.”

Aleksandar Pavlović: “The most important thing is that we just play our game, like we do in every game – working from front to back, as a team. We’re doing that brilliantly at the moment, which is why it’s also so much fun on the pitch. I think it’s also fun for the spectators to watch us. I feel good and it’s just a joy to be on the pitch and play.”

Lennart Karl: “I’m very happy about my goal and about my performance. It’s just a huge amount of fun with the team. We give our all in every training session, which is carrying over into the matches. Everything’s just working very well right now. I can learn a lot from the guys. To also be ‘Player of the Match’ today makes me very happy, of course, but I have to keep working and build on this.”

Reaction from the Brugge camp

Nicky Hayen (coach): “The key for Bayern was their play in behind. We were running after them 80 percent of the time. You can’t win that way. We weren’t at our best, had too much fear in some situations, although we did play better in the second half. This was a lesson for us today. Bayern are an example worldwide.”

Nicolò Tresoldi (forward): “They’re probably the best team in Europe right now. You hardly get any chances. They’re doing really well, which they showed again tonight. It wasn’t an easy game.”
