FC Bayern beat Bodø/Glimt 5-0 on Thursday night to kick off the Champions League campaign in style. Bayern had to wait for Jamal Musiala to open the scoring after half-time, but the goal opened the floodgates and Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies and two-goal Michael Olise sealed a more than deserved victory.
Munich started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović anchored a midfield featuring Olise, Musiala and Luis Díaz, with Kane up front. Josip Stanišić, Ismael Saibari, Hiroki Ito, Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl took over from Laimer, Musiala, Davies, Kimmich and Díaz in the second half.
No goals
Bayern were dominant from the start and Díaz saw a header saved before keeper Nikita Haikin denied Kane. It was one-way traffic, but the visitors were solid at the back and clear-cut chances were few and far between for a spell.
Munich saw a number of shots blocked and Olise miscued, but Vincent Kompany’s team upped the ante towards the end of the half, with Kimmich hitting the post before Haikin denied Musiala and Kimmich.
Musiala breaks the deadlock
Bayern took the lead almost immediately after the restart when a Kane effort was blocked but Musiala made the most of the mix-up in the box, firing into the far corner of the net. Kane was then unable to direct a pinpoint Laimer cross on target, but Munich were soon awarded a free kick and Kane nodded home from Olise’s delivery.
Bodø/Glimt offered little threat going forward but Andreas Helmersen did almost catch Neuer out with an effort from the halfway line. Bayern made it three when Bodø cleared a corner only as far as Davies, whose blistering strike all but put the game to bed. Olise’s curler into the top corner of the net added gloss to the scoreline before Odin Bjørtuft saw a red card for a foul on Olise, who rounded off his brace and the final scoreline when he picked up a loose pass and found the net.
The Bavarians will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to face high-flyers Elversberg in the Bundesliga.
