Leon Goretzka has been an FC Bayern player since summer 2018. He began playing football in his home city of Bochum, initially for Werner SV 06 Bochum and then two years later he joined VfL Bochum, where he stayed for 11 years. ‘Anne Castroper’ allowed the young midfielder’s talent to flourish and he won the gold Fritz Walter medal in 2012.

Olympic silver medallist

Goretzka signed for FC Schalke 04 the following year. He became a Bundesliga runner-up in his final season with the Royal Blues, before making the move to the German record champions. He was part of the FCB team that won six trophies in one season in 2020. Goretzka has also enjoyed success at international level, winning the silver medal with the German team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and the Confederations Cup title a year later.
