FC Bayern Women’s first opponents in the DFB Cup have been confirmed – and they’re none other than Borussia Dortmund! Former Germany internationals Turid Knaak and Maren Meinert made the draw on Tuesday for the revamped first round, with the ties set to take place between 27 and 29 September. For BVB, who play in the third division, it’s a first ever meeting with the cup holders.
As the Bundesliga club, Bayern were in pot 2 of the draw, meaning they could only be given an away match against one of the play-off winners from pot 1. As of this season, the competition is no longer split regionally, and from the last-16 stage onwards, all teams will be drawn from one pot. Teams below the 2. Frauen Bundesliga will continue to enjoy home advantage, however.
